Welcome to my tiny bit of the internet. I hope it feels like something straight out of 2010.
I like to play old-school roguelikes, fighting games, and STGs. Also JRPGs and visual novels.
Even though I write C for a living Ruby is my favorite programming language.
I make games because it’s fun.
I like to read.

mariko.foo
- DESCRIPTION
-
This website is a ~~perpetual hell~~ work-in-progress.
- Its purpose is to exist as a repository for things I find interesting and want to force upon the subset of humanity who find themselves within its pages.
- I know nothing about web dev. It’s a miracle this place even exists.
- RATIONALE
-
mariko.foo is the feeble embodiment of a handful of core principles:
-
1) Waste not, want not.
-
I’ll spare you ~~un~~lucky reader the hyperbolic soapbox grandstanding to which I’m regrettably prone and will try to keep this (as well as the following items) brief. I hate overhead. Truly. Perhaps its a product of the time in which I grew up, perhaps its my ~~OCD~~ delightful quirkiness, or perhaps it’s a philosophical and socioeconomic conviction. Who’s really to say? The result is the same– I lie awake at night tossing and turning, sweating through my sheets, images of bloated code bases, geriatric frameworks, and unnecessarily abstracted operations mock me while they devour system resources with gleeful contempt.
-
It’s all too much. I want a web page to be a goddamn web page and nothing else. We do minimal in this house.
-
2) All OSS all the time.
-
I like OSS (Open Source Software for those of you who somehow haven’t encountered this acronym yet). Nay, I love OSS. I love it more than the “I brake for OSS” tattoo I have at the top of my cleftal horizon. It’s not a silver bullet that will solve all the world’s problems, but hot damn it’s good stuff. Given the option, I will almost always chose OSS. As such, the content found within the depths of this site is Open. The site was built using OSS tools (see COLOPHON, below). Hell, the goddamn site itself is OSS.
-
Are you dearest reader, smelling what I’m stepping in?
-
3) Learning is fun.
-
Yeah, I said it. I like learning. Learning is probably the single most enjoyable type of experience in my entire life. It’s like a drug. The more I get, the more I need. I work in the fast-paced, high-octane, adrenaline-fueled thrill ride that is embedded software engineering. I do not work in web dev. I honestly have no more than the absolute minimal interest in web dev. I also know nothing about web dev and thus having a low pressure outlet for all that juicy delicious learnin’ to be had is pretty damn ideal. Because you know what? Acquiring tastes is another one of my favorite things and it just so happens to pair B E A U T I F U L L Y with my love of learning. So here we are. A website created by someone who has no interest in websites for the purpose of learning about websites with the hope of developing an affection for websites. I’m also kinda shit at writing so maybe that’ll get better too.
